The world's ocean plastic problem - tackled by Trek.

Ever thought about what your Bontrager grips are made of?
Find out here.
Each year, five million tons of plastic makes its way into our oceans, wreaking havoc on the ecosystem and marine life.
The solution, according to Bontrager and Trek's partner Plastix, is a massive shift towards a circular economy where the world’s plastic never becomes waste. Super cool, rad stuff!
In-short: "We take ocean plastics, convert them into other products that can be re-used such as products you'll use every day on your bike."
Bontrager grips with recycled plastic cores!
Thanks to Trek’s partnership with Plastix, Bontrager XR Trail, SE Elite and XR Endurance Grips give a second life to ocean-bound plastics. Each grip has a recycled core made from 85% gathered end-of-life fishing nets, ropes and post-use rigid plastics.
That's what we call "Getting a grip on sustainability!"
Trek is also committed to expanding their process for more sustainable manufacturing of bike accessories and continuing to create additional product lines made using recycled materials.
They have a sustainability plan in place. Do you? Do we? Questions we should be asking ourselves.
